the beginning
Previous remodels muddied a mid-century vernacular. Finishes were not only out of date but left the house reading as a series of decades. One room belonging to the 1970s, with the kitchen belonging to the 1990s. There was little cohesion which rendered an underwhelming sense of place for an architectural house.
The Transformation
Renovating the atrium, removing built in planters created a strong sense of arrival, and catalytically opened the interior core, providing unobstructed views into each wing of the house. Light wood finishes, celebrating the original ceiling, were used to create a unified experience of light and materiality throughout the 5-bedroom home.
